Gateway to Paradise – The Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa

If you want your relaxing break to begin the minute you step off the plane, then Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa is the place for you. Within minutes of the airport, the resort boasts beach front cottages, overwater villas, white beaches, water sports galore and a luxurious spa – there is something to please every traveller.Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa

Getting There
Located in the North Male Atoll, the resort island is accessible by a quick speedboat journey from the airport. Sheraton runs their transfer service 24/7, which means you don’t need to spend a night in nearby Male.
The proximity to the airport makes Sheraton Full Moon Resort & Spa incredibly convenient for shorter breaks in the Maldives, as you are able to dive into paradise without taking another flight.

The Room
We stayed in an Island Cottage, which was so charming with it’s thatched roof and understated decor.Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa I loved the bright and airy feel of the room, with it’s high ceiling and doors opening out to the covered veranda. Just a few steps from the beach and crystalline waters of the lagoon, the Island Cottages still maintain a secluded vibe.

My favourite feature of the room, without a doubt, is the outdoor bathroom. An open air shower surrounded by lush greenery and a separate bath tub under the thatched roof. Ultimate bliss.Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa

There are a large array of restaurants and bars at the resort, from casual to fine dining, you will never run out of options to indulge during your stay.

Breakfast is served in Feast restaurant. It is a buffet style, with the option to order specific dishes and custom coffees.
There is a great selection of tropical fruit, fresh pastries, cereals and even dim sum (I can never resist), even the fussiest of eaters would find something enjoyable to start their day.

We tried out several of the dining options during our stay. Feast serves a buffet dinner with a different theme each evening to keep things interesting. The relaxed atmosphere and range of dishes makes this a great spot to enjoy a casual dinner.

Baan Thai was hard to resist, as I love Thai food. Although not quite as good as the real thing, I did enjoy the innovative takes on classic dishes. The food was delicious, the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive and the contemporary design was lovely.

I must say, Anchorage Bar was probably my favourite spot on the island. Enjoying cocktails with a panoramic view of the turquoise water is hard to beat. The sunset views are stunning and the live music by a local band really created a fun ambience for the evening – the lights of Male and Hulumale twinkling in the distance.

One thing to note is, as with a lot of resorts in the Maldives, the restaurants can get a bit pricey. As mentioned above, the restaurants we enjoyed and feel offer the best value for money were Feast, Baan Thai and Anchorage bar. I did think some of the others were expensive for the quality (and quantity) of the dishes. Though, this is to be expected on an island resort.

Whether you prefer to explore the underwater world of the Maldives or stay above the waves and enjoy the sunshine, there is something for everyone at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa.We went on a snorkelling excursion to a nearby reef on a traditional Maldivian Dhoni. Despite the water being pretty choppy that morning, the guides ensured everyone had the correct equipment before jumping into the water and guiding the small group around the reef. One afternoon we decided to take a jet ski out, after a quick demonstration we were out on the ocean beyond the boundary of the lagoon. It was so much fun with the sea spraying in our face and the waves making us bounce around. I’ll admit, it was a bit scary with the speedboats passing by us! I was happy to head back to the calm waters of the lagoon and spend the rest of the day relaxing on the beach with windswept hair and my adrenaline filled fun for the day.

Enjoy a truly tranquil experience in a tropical location at the Shine Spa. Located on it’s own island connected to the resort by a walkway over crystal clear water, you can treat yourself to an array of signature treatments in your own pavilion with beautiful views over the sea.Their signature treatments use ingredients derived from the Maldivian environment and harness the healing power of nature to provide a relaxing and renewing experience. The therapists are incredibly well trained and I could have spent the whole day in the spa. After your treatment there is a lounge where you can enjoy tea and snacks whilst enjoying the incredible views!

The Verdict
The Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa is a relaxing resort only a stones throw away from Male Airport. The resort has all the amenities you could wish for whether you wish to spend your time relaxing with a cocktail then hitting the spa or filling your days with water sports!

Sheraton Maldives

The rooms are spacious with understated decor that lends itself to the relaxed island vibe. I adore the outdoor bathrooms and only wish we had the weather for them in England haha.

However, the proximity to Male means that the resort lacks the secluded feel of other islands in the Maldives. You can see the city and airport island on the horizon which does slightly take away from the natural beauty.Despite this, I would say the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa is the perfect gateway to the Maldives. You could spend a few days here before flying off to a more remote island. Or enjoy your last few days in the sunshine here before catching your flight.

I’d definitely recommend checking out the resort and enjoying everything it has to offer when you’re in the Maldives.

Have you ever visited the Maldives? Would you like to? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

The Maldives is extremely high on my places to go list and I plan to get there within the next 12 months. This looks like an awesome resort for a quick weekend trip. Far enough from Male to feel away from it all yet still close enough to get in and out for those with limited time.

That’s quite a place- didn’t know Sheraton had a property in the Maldives. The open- air shower is quite impressive and a definite conversation piece.
