Overwater Villa in The Maldives! Reethi Beach Resort Review

What’s it like to spend a night in an overwater villa in the Maldives? It’s incredibly peaceful, with only the sound of the waves on the shore in the background. I’ll share all of the details of what makes this such a unique experience in my Reethi Beach Resort Review.Overwater Villa Reethi Beach Resort Review

The Journey

The journey to Reethi Beach Resort is part of the experience. We took a seaplane with Trans Maldivian Airways from Male, which is a 35 minute flight. The views of the Maldives from above are breathtaking! Passing resorts, sandbanks and uninhabited islands. It seemed like there were a thousand different shades of blue.Upon arrival, we were transferred from the floating terminal by a quick boat trip, whilst taking in the stunning views of the resort.

The Villa

After a quick check-in, where we enjoyed a fresh coconut and refreshing cool towel, we were shown to our villa. The water villas are located at the other end of the island, which is a few minutes stroll along a shady tropical path.On first view the villas look like they are straight out of a dream – set in the perfect location with dreamy white beaches and clear turquoise water.Reethi Beach Resort ReviewThe water villas are perched on stilts above the gorgeous lagoon in a semicircle design with wooden walkways connecting them to the island. Reethi Beach’s villas are semi-detached, which is quite uncommon in the Maldives. However, we didn’t feel that this compromised our privacy, as we did not hear the guests staying in the next villa during our stay. The villas are incredibly spacious with an open plan design, creating a relaxing space. The bedroom has a large bed, a comfortable seating area for lounging and the amenities include drinks making facilities and a fridge (which you must stock from the nearby bar). The bathroom offers a bathtub facing the window, meaning you are able to take in the amazing sea views whilst enjoying a soak! There is no wifi in the room, which I didn’t mind at all, as it allows you to completely disconnect and fully enjoy the moment. You can connect in reception and the restaurants – so you can still share all of your stunning pictures making everyone at home jealous!

Views

Of course, the most impressive feature of the room has to be the glass doors which open onto the private terrace, letting in an abundance of light and offering insane views of the lagoon and uninhabited islands on the horizon. You are able to get beautiful views of the turquoise water which sparkles under the sun rays from everywhere in the room – including the bathroom if you raise the blinds!Reethi Beach Resort ReviewAlso, as the villas are not overlooked by any other rooms you can leave the curtains drawn and wake up to this magical view in the morning!

Relaxing

Outside on the deck, there are two loungers and a table with an umbrella, this area is perfect for relaxing in your own private sun trap. The terrace has a set of stairs which lead down directly onto the sand and into the crystal clear water. This makes it super easy to cool off after a hard morning of relaxing in the sun.You are able to snorkel right off the terrace, there are a lot of colourful fish swimming close to the shore. The reef is only a short distance away where you can see a wide variety of sea life – yes, including reef sharks! The villa is so lovely, that it was tempting to spend all of our time there! We loved chilling on the loungers with the gorgeous views and complete privacy. The resort has room service, which meant that we could enjoy lunch with the peaceful ambience and beautiful views from the terrace.

The Verdict

So what’s it really like to spend a night in an overwater villa in the Maldives? As I said, it was such a relaxing experience.Drifting to sleep with the sounds of the waves and waking up to the most breathtaking views over the lagoon, is such a magical experience.overwater villa maldivesWhen you have paradise right in front of you, there is no need to move from the peaceful retreat of your villa. It makes you feel like you are the only people on the island!Staying in an overwater villa is a truly unique experience that brings your dreams to life! I hope this Reethi Beach Resort review inspired you to add this to your travel list.

Amazing pictures, I have done a lot of city traveling , it is time to start hitting the islands and stay in an overwater villa. Is this your favorite island? And if not, what’s your favorite island and why?

    Thanks,

That looks so beautiful. I’ve always wanted to stay in an over-water bungalow. And I love that they don’t put wifi in the rooms — I’d be too lazy to walk to reception, so that would totally encourage me to disconnect!

I absolutely love your pictures from the seaplane; as you say, so many infinite shades of blue. And the whole place seems wonderfully tranquil and relaxing.

I have never really been really interested in the Maldives as I always thought of these floating villas as the ultimate honeymoon paradise – not something I was actually interested in. I am starting to change my mind – I am getting older, and my honeymoon is not that far in life anymore, that’s maybe why. Stunning place, now I want to go there.
