When I heard of the colourful island of Burano, I thought it sounded like my kind of place – bright, fun and unique!
With every house on the island painted a vibrant shade, it’s easy to see why some people call it the most colourful island in the world.
An interesting fact about the colourful houses is that residents must apply to the government in order to paint their home – they will then be sent a selection of colours to choose from!
Burano’s streets are so picturesque and relaxed, it feels a million miles from Venice. It’s a perfect place to spend the afternoon exploring and enjoying it’s famous buranelli (a delicious lemon biscuit).
I felt really lucky to explore this hidden gem of an island and if you are in Venice, it’s absolutely worth visiting!
My tip: Go early in the morning to avoid the ferry being crowded and you have more time to enjoy this beautiful little island.
Have you ever visited Burano? Let me know! And if you have – which house was your favourite?
