10 days in Malaysia Luxury Itinerary: A Travel Guide
Malaysia is a diverse and captivating destination, from futuristic city skylines and colonial heritage streets to misty highlands and pristine island beaches.
You can be exploring colourful, vibrant street markets one day and relaxing on palm fringed beaches the next.
Malaysia is a foodie paradise. Its rich mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian influences creates one of Southeast Asia’s most exciting culinary scenes, where every meal feels like a discovery.
We only had 10 days for our trip and I did wonder if it would be enough time to explore Malaysia. However, this carefully curated 10 days in Malaysia luxury itinerary ensures you’ll experience the very best of the country. Offering a seamless journey through cities, highlands, heritage an islands.
Day 1 – Kuala Lumpur
After a long flight, we headed straight to our hotel to freshen up and grab a few hours of rest. By sunset, we were ready to ease into the city with drinks overlooking the Petronas Towers, the perfect first glimpse of Kuala Lumpur’s energy.
That said, I’d probably recommend choosing a different spot for sunset drinks. This bar is right beside the indoor pool, which slightly breaks the mood. Since it was where we’re staying it was a convenient choice and the views were amazing!
For a dose of full blown KL glamour, we headed to Suzie Wong for dinner and it did not disappoint. Think speakeasy energy meets modern Chinese dinner party, built around cocktail pairings that seamlessly turn into an after dark affair. There was cabaret style entertainment, dancing and just the right amount of chaos. So much fun and such a memorable way to spend our first night in the city.
Where to stay in Kuala Lumpur? We only had one night in the city, so we chose Traders Hotel KL. It’s stylish, centrally located and has iconic views. What more could you need?
Day 2 – Cameron Highlands
This morning, we waved goodbye to the hustle and heat of the city and set off on a scenic 3.5-hour drive into the cooler climes of the Cameron Highlands. As the roads climbed higher, the air grew fresher, the temperature dropped and misty landscapes began to replace the urban skyline.
Situated in the Titiwangsa Mountains, the Cameron Highlands are famed for their rolling tea plantations, colonial heritage and English countryside charm.
We arrived around midday and checked into our elegant resort, a welcome retreat that instantly felt worlds away from the city. After settling in, we enjoyed a leisurely lunch, soaking up our serene surroundings.
That afternoon, we joined a complimentary guided nature walk through the nearby forest. It was the perfect way to stretch our legs after the journey, gently acclimatise to the cooler climate and immerse ourselves in the region’s lush biodiversity. With views across rolling hills and towering trees draped in moss, it was a peaceful and grounding experience, one that truly set the tone for our time in the highlands.
We had an early night, ready for our wake up call for tomorrow’s adventures.
Day 3 – Cameron Highlands
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a morning person, but if there’s one early start you have to make in the Cameron Highlands, it’s for a sunrise jeep tour.
We were picked up while it was still dark and made our way up to the view point for sunrise.
Our resort had thoughtfully prepared breakfast boxes for us, so we enjoyed a light bite as the sky slowly transformed from inky blue to soft hues of pink and gold.
Watching the sun rise over the misty tea plantations was nothing short of magical – a truly unforgettable start to the day. Once we’d soaked up the views, it was time to continue on to the next stops of our tour.
Next up was the Mossy Forest, believed to be around 200 million years old and one of the oldest forests in Malaysia. Sitting at a high elevation, it’s often cloaked in mist, giving it an almost fairytale-like atmosphere. At times, it genuinely feels as though you’re walking through the clouds. Wooden boardwalks and viewing platforms make it easy to explore, allowing you to fully appreciate the unique flora and otherworldly surroundings.
Arriving early meant we had the forest almost entirely to ourselves, which made the experience feel even more surreal and special.
Our final stop was a local tea plantation, where we indulged in a sweet treat and, of course, a cup or two, of freshly brewed tea while taking in the sweeping views across the emerald-green hills.
The private jeep tour was the perfect way to explore more of the region, and we learned so much about the Cameron Highlands along the way. My top tip? Bring a jacket – it’s significantly cooler here than anywhere else on our itinerary.
Back at the resort, we treated ourselves to a relaxing massage at the award-winning spa, a blissful way to unwind after such an early start.
With plenty of time before dinner, we decided to stroll to a nearby strawberry farm. Picking our own fresh strawberries was great fun, but snacking on them as we walked back to the resort was even better.
That evening, we dined at The Dining Room, the resort’s signature restaurant. The ambience is elegant and candle-lit, while the menu blends classic English dishes with Asian-inspired flavours. Using fresh, local ingredients, every dish was beautifully presented and the service was impeccable, the perfect end to a memorable day.
Where to Stay in the Cameron Highlands? If you’re wondering where to stay, Cameron Highlands Resort is an absolute must. With its British colonial design, roaring fireplaces, afternoon tea and serene spa, it feels like stepping into a bygone era, but with the warmth of modern Asian hospitality.
It’s easy to see why the resort is part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Not only is it the ideal base for exploring the Cameron Highlands, but it’s also a destination in its own right and a truly unforgettable part of the experience.
Day 4 – Penang
After an exquisite breakfast, we said goodbye to the Cameron Highlands and set off on a four hour drive towards Penang – our destination was George Town. Malaysia’s culinary capital and a UNESCO World Heritage city renowned for its rich history, colourful architecture and legendary food scene.
Arriving in George Town, we checked into our hotel and enjoyed a quick refresh before heading straight back out. There was no time to waste – Penang’s foodie reputation precedes itself and we were eager to dive in.
That afternoon, we joined a guided street food tour through the bustling streets of the city. Wandering past shophouses, markets and hawker stalls, we stopped at some of George Town’s best hidden gems. Take it from me – you’ll need a very good appetite for this tour. From fragrant noodle dishes to sweet local desserts, we tasted it all while our guide shared the stories, traditions and cultural influences behind each bite.
It was the perfect introduction to Penang and a delicious way to get our bearings in the city.

Day 5 – Penang
We began our morning with a cycling tour through Penang’s scenic countryside, a refreshing change of pace from the city streets. Pedalling through traditional Malay villages, palm tree plantations and coastal fishing communities offered a deeper insight into everyday life on the island and showcased a completely different side of Penang.
The tour also included a stop for local breakfast pastries and a cup of teh tarik, Malaysia’s iconic pulled tea – the ideal fuel before continuing our ride.
Later that day, we made our way to Kek Lok Si Temple, one of the largest Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia. While the intricate pagodas and ornate architecture are stunning in their own right, the real highlight is the panoramic hilltop view, offering sweeping vistas across Penang that make the visit truly unforgettable.
As evening fell, we returned to George Town and enjoyed wandering through its atmospheric historic streets. We couldn’t resist revisiting a few of our favourite food spots from the previous day’s tour.
Where to Stay in George Town, Penang? We stayed at lyf George Town Penang, a modern and vibrant hotel perfectly suited to exploring the city. With its central location, it’s easy to access George Town’s top attractions, cafés and food stalls.

Day 6 – Langkawi
We enjoyed a relaxed morning cafe hopping around George Town, soaking up the city’s creative energy and charming streets. Between flat whites and sweet treats, we wandered in search of Penang’s iconic street art. Don’t miss the famous murals, especially “Children on a Bicycle” – one of the city’s most photographed spots and a must for your camera roll.
In the afternoon, we took a short flight over to Langkawi, swapping heritage streets for tropical island vibes. Upon arrival, we were met at the airport and chauffeured to the beautifully secluded Tanjung Rhu Resort, set on one of Langkawi’s most pristine beaches.
As the day drew to a close, we spent the evening unwinding by the sea, watching the sky transform as the sun dipped below the horizon. An incredible sunset and the soothing sound of the waves marked the perfect beginning to our time in paradise.
Day 7 – Langkawi
Waking up in paradise, we grabbed a quick breakfast before heading out for a morning of adventure. Today was all about exploring a different side of Langkawi, and there’s no better way to do that than on an ATV tour.
We set off along Langkawi’s rugged off-road trails, weaving through forests, muddy tracks and rural landscapes you’d never see from the main roads. It was fast-paced, exhilarating and so much fun – the kind of experience that leaves you smiling and covered in dust by the end.
After working up an appetite, we stopped at a beachside spot for lunch, refuelling with ocean views before making our way back to the resort.
The rest of the day was spent exactly as it should be in Langkawi; slowing down, soaking up the sunshine and unwinding in our tropical surroundings.
Day 8 – Langkawi
Today was truly one for the books as we set off on a private jet ski tour around Langkawi and without doubt one of the highlights of the entire trip.
We zipped between pristine islands, hidden coves and turquoise mangrove channels, taking in Langkawi’s dramatic limestone scenery from a completely different perspective. The sense of freedom out on the open sea, paired with the island’s natural beauty made this experience unforgettable.
The tour included lunch on a remote island, where we enjoyed freshly prepared seafood and sipped on a coconut, surrounded by nothing but crystal-clear water and soft white sand. After lunch, we cruised back along the coastline, soaking up the final moments out on the water.
The afternoon was spent back at the resort, embracing island life at a slower pace – swimming in the pool, relaxing on the beach and enjoying the peaceful setting.
As a perfect finale to our time in Langkawi, we wrapped up the evening with a beach BBQ dinner at our resort. With our toes in the sand, we watched one last magnificent sunset paint the sky before the stars slowly emerged overhead. The perfect way to end our stay.
Where to stay in Langkawi? I can’t recommend Tanjung Rhu Resort enough. It’s one of Langkawi’s most luxurious and secluded beachfront properties, offering a true escape from the crowds.
The rooms are incredibly spacious and thoughtfully designed, with every amenity you could need for a comfortable stay. The resort boasts a private beach and multiple swimming pools, all with breathtaking views over the Andaman Sea, framed by Langkawi’s iconic limestone karsts lining the shore.
It’s the kind of place where time slows down and one you’ll be dreaming about long after you leave.
Day 9 – Kuala Lumpur
We enjoyed breakfast with a beach view one final time, savouring the sound of the waves and those last moments of island bliss before heading to the airport for our flight back to Kuala Lumpur.
Back in the city, we checked into our stylish hotel, perfectly located near the heart of KL. After a quick refresh, we headed straight back out for our final evening experience.
That night, we joined a Kuala Lumpur street food tour, diving into hidden alleys and lively night markets in search of the city’s most iconic dishes. From fragrant nasi lemak to perfectly grilled satay and so much more, it was a feast in every sense of the word.
Day 10 – Kuala Lumpur
On your final morning, take a short drive to the Batu Caves, one of Malaysia’s most iconic landmarks. Climb the vibrant, rainbow-coloured staircase, admire the towering golden statue of Lord Murugan, and explore the sacred cave temples carved into the dramatic limestone cliffs.
If time allows before your flight, enjoy one last coffee, pick up a final souvenir or simply pause to reflect on the journey before heading to the airport – leaving Malaysia with unforgettable memories.
Where to stay in KL? For our final night in Kuala Lumpur, we chose to stay in a different area of the city and checked into The Chow Kit. This boutique hotel blends vintage charm with modern amenities, thoughtfully reflecting the history and character of its surrounding neighbourhood. Perfectly located for our final activities, it offered a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere. We loved the character of the hotel and the dining was great too.
We certainly packed a lot into this 10 days in Malaysia luxury itinerary, making it an incredible option for first-time visitors. From misty highlands and cultural cities to tropical islands and unforgettable food experiences, it’s a seamless blend of nature, culture, cuisine and relaxation – if you ask me, the perfect way to experience Malaysia.
