Fun in Florence!

With it’s picturesque Renaissance architecture and relaxed atmosphere Florence is incredibly beautiful. There are some experiences and places in the city that are truly extraordinary and must not be missed!

Art

Something that strikes me about the city is that for every corner you turn, you will find art. That’s why I believe the best way to explore Florence is by wandering around and getting lost, you never know what you will discover! That being said there is a reason certain locations are so popular…The Uffizi Gallery is one of the world’s most celebrated galleries, containing some of Italy’s most well-known paintings. When you’ve spent enough time taking in the collection of Italian Renaissance art, head to Piazza della Signoria – the perfect setting to enjoy a drink and people watching. Or go check out the near by Ponte Vecchio for a spot of shopping.

Duomo

Florence’s Duomo is the city’s most iconic landmark. Instantly recognisable by it’s unique pink, white and green facade, the campanile and cupola dominate the skyline.It is absolutely worth purchasing a ticket and enduring the climb (over 400 steps!) up Giotto’s bell tower, passing frescoes by Uccello and Gaddi on the way! You are rewarded with an unencumbored panoramic view of Florence.

Explore 

I’m always intrigued to learn more about the place I’m visiting, but I don’t think museum hopping is the best way to do this! To discover the hidden history of Florence; from the scandals of prominent figures, to secret (often salacious) messages built in some of Florence’s famous monuments, I joined the Sex, Drugs and Renaissance tour.After a welcome drink of prosecco, we were guided through the streets of Florence hearing intriguing stories about artists, popes and betrayal in the very same locations they happened. We saw a different side to the city even when visiting popular locations. This tour brought the Renaissance era to life and was certainly an interesting way to spend the afternoon!

Relax

After walking around and exploring the bustling city, there is nothing better to do than enjoy an apéritif! As everybody knows, I have a real affinity for roof top locations and I was not disappointed by Antica Torre’s terraces.The terraces are incredibly peaceful and the perfect place to relax. Whichever direction you look, you are greeted by unique views across the city and beyond. I especially enjoyed the view of the Arno river below. Plus, on a warm day the terraces are a total sun trap – what more could you ask for?

Indulge

This one is self explanatory, Tuscan food is delicious and how can you visit Florence without trying some classic dishes? My favourite is definitely antipasto, as I love having a selection of things to try…. and because I’m addicted to cheese, pecorino to be specific haha.I will also always have time for gelato. I think it’s a life mission to try every flavour, so delicious!
